Bone ash is a calcium phosphate material derived from calcined animal bones. It is used in ceramics for its role in glaze and clay body formulations, such as traditional bone china. In glazes, bone ash acts as a flux, promoting smooth melting and helping to develop rich, glossy surfaces. It also encourages the formation of certain glaze textures and can influence colour response when combined with oxides.
