Tin Oxide Grade 1

Tin oxide is a powerful opacifier valued for its capacity to create smooth, opaque white glazes, such as in traditional delftware or majolica. In addition to its opacifying properties, tin oxide can interact with other oxides in interesting ways, producing particular surface effects as well as colour responses, such as pinks when used with chrome.

Due to its high cost, zirconium-based opacifiers are often used as a more affordable alternative, although tin has approximately twice the potency of zirconium silicate.
