Mayco is coming to Keane!

Make way for Mayco!

We are so excited to be adding Mayco's incredible range of glazes to our ever-growing collection, due to hit the shelves in late October.

Since 1954 Mayco have been delivering the goods to ceramic artists across the world, becoming one of the biggest names in the pottery supply industry, known for quality and reliability. We particularly love that many of their glazes can be fired to multiple temperatures. Talk about versatility!

Whether you're firing to earthenware, mid fire or stoneware temperatures, we are sure you'll fine a new glaze to fall in love with.

Check out what's on the way...

Mayco's Stoneware range is designed to fire across mid fire temperatures (cone 5/6) all the way up to cone 10, producing stunning results in reduction as well as oxidation atmospheres.

The Stoneware range includes Classic, Matte, Crystal, and Gloss, offering a wide variety of finishes and textures. Many glazes will break over textures, revealing secondary colours and shades, and there are infinite possibilities when you start layering two or more different glazes.

Mayco have some provided some wonderful examples of what you can achieve by layering their glazes, but you can also combine Mayco glazes with any others we stock such as Amaco or Chrysanthos. We can't wait to see what you come up with!

Inspired by aspects of nature, Mayco's Elements produce lush, organic, and earthy hues. This high-performance glaze gives artists a wide variety of options in one product as glaze application, firing temperature and shape will influence the outcome of finished work.

The Elements range was designed to simulate the aesthetic of mid-range and high-fire glazed pottery in a cone 06/05 oxidation firing, but many will remain stable up to mid fire temperatures.

Like all Mayco glazes, Elements can be layered to create unique hues and vary from gloss to matte, with subtle variations occurring in each colour.

PATINA

At earthenware temps (cone 06), Patina is a matte, mottled mint green and copper glaze.

At mid fire (cone 6), the colour changes to a glossy pink that breaks over texture; mint green crystallization can occur. Enhanced mobility. Surface issues may occur.

COPPER ADVENTURINE

At cone 06 oxidation Copper Adventurine is a glossy, metallic dark brown and copper glaze with a yellow stain.

At cone 6, the colour darkens to a sparkly black that breaks over texture and pools brown/red.

MALACHITE

At earthenware temps (cone 06) Malachite is a mottled dark green and metallic black glaze with a matte finish.

At mid fire (cone 6), the colour changes to a glossy green that breaks over texture and pools a metallic gray; green/gray crystallization can occur.

Go wild with Mayco’s Jungle Gems! These stunning glazes allow ceramic artists to add colour and depth to their designs with ease. While formulated for cone 06/05 use, many of the glazes perform beautifully at higher temperatures. Refer to the individual colour label for cone 6 firing performance.

Use as standalone glazes or layer with others to create unique effects and finishes. Jungle Gems demonstrate the magic of the kiln more effectively than any other glaze. Delightful for potters of all ages.

RAKU

We are so excited to finally stock a range of glazes specifically formulated for Raku! Mayco's Raku glazes are designed to develop beautiful metallic lustres and crackle patterns in a Raku atmosphere. Due to the unpredictable nature of this firing technique, results will vary with every firing - and that's why we love it!

RK-100 Black Metallic creates a highly reflective, dark metallic finish.

RK-101 Copper Metallic develops a glossy copper colour with various iridescent shades.

RK-103 White Crackle develops a fine crackle pattern over a white gloss surface.

RK-105 Copper Penny develops a bright glossy copper finish with various iridescent shades of blue and purple.

RK-106 Peacock Matte develops a matte copper colour with various iridescent shades of blue and purple.

RK-107 Oil Slick develops a mix of dark blue, green, and purple tones.

FLUX

Go with the flow... Mayco's Light Flux and Dark Flux are mid-range glazes that were developed to be used in combination with other mid-range glazes to produce flowing effects. Designed to fire to cone 5/6, but can be fired to cone 9/10 (movement will be more pronounced at higher temperatures).

The order in which you apply Mayco Flux – above or beneath another glaze – impacts the fired result. Variables that influence movement include the fluidity of the companion glaze, application methods, thickness and orientation of application, number of coats, firing temperature and program. We love that just one pot of Flux can open up a whole world of possibilities!

STONEWARE SPECIALITY

For lovers of texture and tactility, Mayco’s Stoneware Specialty glazes really bring the special treatment to ceramic surfaces.

Mudcrack & Magma

White Mudcrack and Black Mudcrack were developed to create a highly-texture raised and cracked surface. The thicker the application, the more textured the surface.

Light Magma and Dark Magma were developed to create a rough, cratered surface. The thicker the application, the more textured the surface will be.

Magma & Mudcrack can be directly applied to bisqueware, or used in combination with other mid-range glazes.
